Located in southeastern Ethiopia, Bale Mountains National Park belongs to the Bale-Arsi Massif, which forms the western region of the Ethiopian Highlands. The park is renowned for having one of the highest wildlife endemism of any habitat on Earth – i.e. 26 per cent of Ethiopia’s endemic species.
The lush forest environment of Bale Mountains is packed with stunning vistas and some amazing hiking routes. Plus the Afro-alpine plateau of the region is the highest mountainous area in southern Ethiopia Destinations.
The northern section of the park is the homestead for the Sanetti Plateau, a high-altitude area of glacial lakes surrounded by volcanic ridges. Whereas, the southern section of the park comprises a thick jungle called the Harenna Forest.
Lying in Ethiopia’s highland region, Bale Mountains National Park has a different climate than the rest of southern Ethiopia. The rainy season in the park is from June to September and if you want to see the park at its most scenic then September and October are optimal months.
The Best Time to Visit the Bale Mountains National Park for hiking expeditions is from October to March, commonly known as the dry season of Ethiopia.
